It is one of the most surprising news of these days. Hugo Barra, one of Xiaomi’s best-known faces, leaves the company a decisive year for the new devices and will start a new project in Silicon Valley.
Hugo Barra, who has worked for Google before Xiaomi, has announced on Facebook that he will leave Xiaomi. According to what we can see in his great post, for him, working in Beijing was one of the most interesting adventures of his life. In addition, it indicates that Xiaomi is on track for its global expansion. Read full Facebook post of Hugo Barra here:
THANKS FOR A GREAT 3.5 YEARS, MI FANS — When Lei Jun and Bin Lin came to me nearly four years ago with the opportunity…
It must be a tricky decision for Xiaomi to let this player go, but the truth is that Bin-Lin, co-founder of the Xiaomi brand, also left a few words to Hugo as:
“When Hugo joined us 3.5 years ago, we began an incredible adventure to transform Xiaomi into a global player. We have come a long way since then, and I could not thank you enough for having contributed so much to Xiaomi’s trip. As much as we would like to have Hugo stay with us in Beijing for a much longer time, we understand his personal challenges and wish him the best in his future endeavors. I am also looking forward to working closely with him in his new role as Xiaomi’s advisor.
Xiang Wang, Xiaomi’s senior vice president, will carry all our global efforts forward. We have ambitious expansion plans for 2017 and are confident in Xiang’s leadership to take our global business to even greater heights!”
This year we will see the new Xiaomi Mi 6, and we also hope that Xiaomi will start its global expansion in a more powerful way.
What Hugo Barra Do after Xiaomi:
Just after this notification from Hugo Barra on Facebook, within couple of days we came to see status from Mark Zuckerberg sharing his excitement towards Hugo’s joining on Facebook. Hogo Barra will lead Facebook’s virtual reality including Oculus project.
I'm excited that Hugo Barra is joining Facebook to lead all of our virtual reality efforts, including our Oculus team….
Anyway we still love Xiaomi as we do before and hope you guys too. We don’t know whether this move will affect our love towards Xiaomi but time will tell.
